The Beekeepers Society of South Australia (BSSA) holds monthly general meetings on the second Monday of each month (including public holidays) at the Burnside Community Centre.

The meeting begins at 7.30 pm, however we encourage members and non-members alike to join fellow beekeepers (or would be beekeepers) before the meeting at 7 pm. For a $3 donation you can enjoy a tea, coffee and something delicious to eat. For a sustainable option, bring your 'keep cup' and supper is yours for a discounted $2.50. We also have a networking opportunity between 9 and 9.30 pm. This is a valuable opportunity for new beekeepers to meet experienced beekeepers, to share skills and knowledge and to catch up with beekeepers you may not have seen for a while.

This month, Stuart Anderson, co-inventor of the Flow Hive is livestreaming into the meeting. You can find the details here

You can also take this opportunity to purchase raffle tickets, peruse the BSSA library and return any library books you have borrowed.

Beginner and intermediate education classes start at 6.30 pm and run for an hour before the main meeting. Bookings are essential, please visit our classes page for more information and bookings.

The general meeting is recorded and can be viewed on our website and Facebook a few days after the event. You will need to log in to see the video.

Please use the 'Register' button to register for the general meeting, even if you are also attending a beginner or intermediate class. This will assist with faster registration at the beginning of the meeting.

If you wish to pay for a membership on the night, contactless payment is preferred.

Practical hands-on beekeeping experience guided by club experts. An excellent way to gain experience in hive inspections and gain knowledge at the BSSA apiary.

This event will feature reduce hives to single brood box for winter.

All are welcome, but non-members are only allowed to attend two sessions before they must join the BSSA.

All participants must have at least long sleeves, long-leg trousers (preferably light-coloured), closed shoes and a head veil. We strongly recommend you bring your own bee suit and gloves (Ansell rubber gloves are acceptable) as the BSSA have a limited supply of veils and sizes at each session.

Spaces are limited, and online registrations are necessary. If you require more information about the field day, contact Bob Beer on 0413 208 835.

Cost: Register and pay online - $10 for Members, $20 for Non-Members.

The BSSA apiary is located on Selgar Ave in Clovelly Park. Click for a Google map. Due to roadworks, Bob has provided directions to access Selgar Ave as follows:

Exit off South Road at Tonsley Boulevard and into MAB Circuit. The first turn right will bring you into Selgar Ave.

Please allow plenty of travel time to ensure an on time arrival.

IMPORTANT: The field day will not proceed (according to the previous night's forecast) if:

    • the forecast temperature is below 17 or over 30 degrees
    • if it is raining

However we now have secured an onsite area that enables us to work out of the rain on related topics without the bees.
