Understanding the biology of Varroa mites is essential for implementing effective control measures and protecting honeybee populations from the devastating effects of this parasite.

1.Life Cycle typically consists of the following stages:

1.Dispersal Phase: Adult female mites attach to adult bees and are transported back to the hive.
2.Reproductive Phase: Female mites enter the brood cells (cells where bee larvae develop) before they are capped.
2.Feeding: Varroa mites feed on the fat bodies of developing larvae.
3.Impact on Honeybees: Varroa mites weaken honeybee colonies by feeding on adult bees and brood, transmitting pathogens,
and weakened immune systems in infested bees.
4. Transmission of Pathogens: These viruses can cause significant harm to bee colonies, particularly in conjunction with Varroa infestations.

5. IPM is a systematic approach that always begins with prevention, and as the level of infestation increases, different treatments are used to bring it back down below the level that can damage a beekeeper’s business. This allows beekeepers to practice sustainable pest management while minimising harm to bees, humans and the environment.

6. Approved Treatments – we will explore Synthetic and Organic Miticides and Chemical-Free approaches

7. Support – You're not in this alone and will provide details of who to contact and when
